We anticipate road closures around the National Mall this week in preparation for Freedom 250 Grand Prix on August 22-23. Operators will continue to serve all stops when possible. Additional Service adjustments may be made that will impact AM or PM Service. During AM service, drivers will make every attempt to get passengers as close as possible to stops while closures are in place.
From Monday, July 20, 2026, through Thursday, September 3, 2026, the following streets will be posted as Emergency No Parking and closed to vehicle traffic. Local traffic for deliveries or employee access to the museums will be permitted during this time period.
4th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue, NW to Independence Avenue, SW
Madison Drive from 7th Street to 3rd Street, NW
Jefferson Drive from 7th Street to 3rd Street, SW
During the following dates, from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., the following roadways will be closed. The roadway will reopen after 6:00 a.m. on the following day, but motorists should expect reduced number of travel lanes in these areas upon reopening.
Saturday, August 1st – 9th Street from Constitution Avenue to Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Sunday, August 2nd – 7th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue, NW to Independence Avenue, SW
Monday, August 3rd – 7th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue, NW to Independence Avenue, SW
Tuesday, August 4th – 3rd Street from Pennsylvania Avenue, NW to Independence Avenue, SW
Friday, August 7th – Pennsylvania Avenue from 10th Street to 3rd Street, NW
Saturday, August 8th – Pennsylvania Avenue from 10th Street to 3rd Street, NW
Sunday, August 9th – Pennsylvania Avenue from 10th Street to 3rd Street, NW
Tuesday, August 11th – Independence Avenue from 7th
From Saturday, August 1, 2026, through Wednesday, August 26, 2026, the following street will be closed to vehicle traffic:
Northbound travel lane on 9th Street from Constitution Avenue to Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Monday, August 3, 2026:
Due to street closures, MTA Commuter Bus will use 3rd Street when 7th Street is closed. If 7th Street is open, buses Will service all stops.
Routes 305 & 325:
The following stops will NOT be served when using 3rd St., NW
*7th St. & Independence Ave., SW
*Constitution Ave. & 9th St., NW
*Constitution Ave. bet. 14th & 15th Sts., NW
Passengers may safely board at one of the following stop locations:
*Independence Ave. & 1st St., SW
*Independence Ave. & 4th St., SW
*18th St. & C St., NW
Route 315:
The following stops will Not be served when using 3rd St., NW:
*7th St. & Independence Ave., SW
*Constitution Ave. & 9th St., NW
Passengers can safely board at one of the following stop locations:
*12 St. & E St., NW
*Independence Ave. & 4th St., SW
Routes 335 & 345:
The following stops will NOT be served when using 3rd St., NW:
*Constitution Ave. & 14th St., NW
*Constitution Ave. & 10th St., NW
*7th St. & Constitution Ave., NW
*Independence Ave. bet. 7th St. & 6th St., SW
Passengers may board at one of the following stop locations:
*19th St. & E St., NW
*Independence Ave. bet. 4th St. & 3rd St., NW
Tuesday, August 4, 2026:
Buses will use 7th St. and provide regular service when possible.
The following stops will NOT be served when 3rd Street is closed:
Routes 230, 250, 735, & 850:
*Constitution Ave. & 3rd St., NW
Passenger can safely board the bus at one of the following stop locations:
*Louisiana Ave. & D St., NW
*Pennsylvania between 4th & 6th St., NW
*4th St. & C St., SW
Friday, August 7th-No stops along Pennsylvania Ave., NW will be served. (Service Alert will be sent on Wednesday, August 5, 2026)
