Red Line: Shuttle Buses are replacing service between Alewife and Harvard the weekend of June 29 - 30 for track work. Commuter Rail service will be free to ride between Porter and North Station. Bus Route 77 will be fare-free. Starts Jun 29 Until Jul 1 As a result of this service change, there will be longer than normal time between Red Line subway trains where service continues to operate. Red Line: Shuttle buses replace service between Alewife and Kendall from July 13-28. On weeknights from 8:30 PM to end of service, and all day on weekends, shuttles will extend to Park Street. Riders can use Commuter Rail at Porter. Starts Jul 13 Until Jul 29 Bus Route 77 will be fare-free within Cambridge.
There will be three free and accessible shuttle bus options for Red Line riders during this time period:
1. Shuttle buses will make all stops to all stations.
2. Express shuttle buses will make stops between Alewife, Porter, and Kendall/MIT.
3. A shuttle bus loop will operate from Harvard to Central to Kendall/MIT and back to Harvard.
Commuter Rail Options:
Riders are encouraged to consider the Fitchburg Commuter Rail Line for fare-free service between Porter and North Station. Regular fares should be purchased beyond Porter.
An additional “shuttle train” will operate hourly between North Station and Porter. This shuttle train along with the existing service on the Fitchburg Line means trains will operate every 30 minutes on weekdays and every hour on weekends between Porter and North Station, essentially doubling Commuter Rail service.

The Alewife Garage may have additional spaces taken to accelerate repairs while the demand for parking is low. Once parking demand increases, these spaces will be made available again to our riders. Started Mar 27 2020
The Quincy Adams parking garage has re-opened with most parking spaces available. Customers can access the garage via the Route 3 off ramp exit as well as the Burgin Parkway entrance. Started Jan 31 2021 Beginning November 29, the parking lot across from the station will close. Please use the garage or adjacent surface lot as an alternative.
The Quincy Adams Garage drop-off and pick-up location will remain at its location within Level 1B.
The garage will be PayByPhone / PayByPlate with no need to pay to exit. More information on how to pay for parking is available at mbta.com/parking.
The Braintree Parking Garage has re-opened with most parking spots available. The surface lot on Ivory St will remain open as an alternate parking option. Started Apr 20 2021 Riders can continue to use PayByPhone or pay-by-plate with the same parking fees as other MBTA surface lots.
The outbound platform at Kendall/MIT station will be closed the weekend of June 29 - 30, beginning at 9:00 PM on Friday, June 28. Starts Jun 28 Until Jul 1 For outbound/northbound riders disembarking at Kendall/MIT, riders should instead travel to Central station to board an inbound/southbound train back to Kendall/MIT.
